Caitlin joined The Event School London as part of an Australian study tour group, travelling to the UK to take an intensive short course in Event Management and immerse herself in London’s international events scene. Designed to go beyond the classroom, the programme places students directly into professional environments where learning is shaped by what is happening in the industry around them. During her course, one of Caitlin’s training venues was based at ExCeL London, one of Europe’s largest and most influential exhibition and conference centres. In this video, Caitlin explains why she loved studying in this setting. With its vast scale and constant flow of major exhibitions, conferences and live events, ExCeL offers a unique backdrop that brings event management to life in real time. Being taught in a venue of this calibre allows students to observe how large-scale events operate day to day, from logistics and production through to visitor experience and venue management. It creates an atmosphere where theory and practice naturally connect, and where learning feels relevant, current and closely aligned with the realities of a global events industry. Immersed in London’s Wedding Society A student perspective from 10–11 Carlton House Terrace One of the most defining aspects of studying at The Event School London is how quickly students are immersed in the real world of events. From the very start of their course, learning moves beyond the classroom and into London’s most respected venues, placing students directly inside the environments they aspire to work in. Recently, a small group of students attended an exclusive showcase at 10–11 Carlton House Terrace, an iconic address overlooking St James’s Park and a cornerstone of London’s wedding and private events scene. Among them was Anh, a student from Vietnam currently studying on the Advanced Diploma in Wedding and Event Planning. In a short video filmed during the visit, Anh shared her favourite space in the venue, the Blue Room. Known for its elegance, architectural detail and refined atmosphere, the room made a strong impression. Her response was instinctive and thoughtful, exactly the kind of professional eye we aim to nurture in our students from day one. Learning through immersion, not observation For Anh, this visit came just weeks after commencing her course, yet she was already analysing the venue through the lens of a future planner. This is no accident. At The Event School London, experiential learning sits at the heart of our teaching philosophy. Students are encouraged to see, question, reflect and connect, developing confidence and industry awareness early in their training. Site tours and industry excursions are not treated as optional extras. They are embedded into our programmes as core learning moments. During this visit, our Director Maria and Lead Wedding Planning Lecturer Siobhan Craven-Robins were able to guide students through the experience, sharing professional insight while allowing space for personal discovery.
