New Perspectives on Events, Marketing and Weddings: Gehna’s Student Experience

What can studying event management in London offer someone already working in the industry? For Gehna, it has been an opportunity to explore a different market, learn from others and look at familiar work with fresh eyes.
Joining The Event School London’s four-week Diploma in Event Management with Marketing and Social Events Summer Programme, Gehna brought experience in events and Indian weddings. In her LinkedIn reflections, she shared how each week added a new perspective to that experience.
Watch her video review below, then read some of her highlights.
Week One: Learning Doesn’t Stop When You Start Working
Gehna’s first week prompted a reflection that will resonate with many working professionals:
“One of the biggest misconceptions about learning is that it stops once you start working. If anything, I’ve realised it becomes even more important.”
With Nick Oxborrow leading an engaging start to the course, Gehna explored how the principles of event management translate across different markets.
Learning alongside people from different industries and parts of the world challenged how she viewed her own work. It also gave her ideas she was excited to take into future projects.
Week Two: Seeing the Bigger Picture Through Digital Marketing

The second week introduced Gehna to another side of the industry: digital marketing.
Coming from an events background, she had naturally focused on the experience itself-what people see, feel and remember.
Exploring marketing with Amira Tomiris encouraged her to consider how audiences discover and engage with that experience.
Her biggest takeaway?
“Digital marketing is so much more than just social media.”
From understanding audiences and developing content to SEO, email marketing and strategy, Gehna began to see how closely events and marketing connect. Creating a memorable event and reaching the right people are both part of its success.
Week Three: A Fresh Perspective on Wedding Planning

Week three brought Gehna back to a part of the industry close to her heart: weddings.
Having worked extensively in Indian weddings, she found it particularly interesting to explore wedding planning in the UK with Siobhan Craven-Robins.
In her reflections, Gehna compared the grand, multi-day Indian celebrations she knew with the smaller, more intimate English weddings she was learning about.
Guest numbers, traditions and the planner’s responsibilities could differ, but one priority remained constant:
“Whether it’s a wedding for 50 people or 500, it’s still one of the most important days in a couple’s life. Every detail matters.”
It was a chance to consider a different market while recognising the care and attention that wedding planners share across cultures.
Week Four: Social Events and Party Planning

Gehna’s final week focused on social events and party planning with Medina Williamsons, adding another dimension to her experience at The Event School London.
Following three weeks exploring event management, digital marketing and wedding planning, this final part of the programme turned to personal celebrations and parties.
With lecturer Medina's experience including The Dorchster and The ladnsdoen Pirvate Members Club, Gehna was in the best place to learn about luxury events and high end party-planning.
It rounded off her four-week summer course in London, bringing together subjects connected by a shared focus: creating memorable experiences for others.
Bringing New Ideas Back to Work
Across Gehna’s reflections, one theme runs throughout: professional experience and continued learning can strengthen each other.
From event management to digital marketing and wedding planning, each week offered another way to approach her work - and ideas to carry into future projects.
Thank you, Gehna, for joining us and sharing your experience!
