  • What's Different About Working with Corporate Events?

Organising corporate events involves a distinct set of challenges and rewards, making it a unique niche within the event planning industry. Unlike social gatherings or public events, corporate functions often carry specific goals tied to a business’s objectives, such as team building, product launches, annual general meetings, networking, or educational workshops. This specialised focus demands an acute understanding of the company's culture, goals, and the message it wants to convey to its attendees. The ability to align the event with the company's brand identity is crucial, ensuring that every aspect, from the decor to the keynote speeches, reinforces the corporate image and ethos. One of the key differences when working with corporate events is the level of stakeholder involvement. Corporate events usually have multiple stakeholders, including senior management, marketing teams, and external partners. Each group may have its own set of expectations and requirements for the event. Navigating these diverse needs requires excellent communication skills and the ability to manage expectations. Event planners must adeptly balance these demands while ensuring the event stays on budget and meets its objectives. This complexity adds a layer of diplomacy and stakeholder management that is less prevalent in other types of event planning. Another distinctive aspect of corporate events is the emphasis on return on investment (ROI). Companies are increasingly looking to justify the expense of their events by demonstrating tangible outcomes, such as increased employee engagement, stronger client relationships, or a boost in sales leads. This requires event planners to be more strategic in their planning, incorporating elements that directly contribute to achieving these outcomes. It also means that there’s a greater need for post-event evaluation, using metrics and feedback to measure success and inform future events. This focus on quantifiable results pushes planners to be innovative in their approach, integrating technology and data analysis into their toolset. The rapid evolution of technology and its application in corporate events is a game-changer. From virtual reality experiences to live streaming and mobile apps, technology is used to enhance attendee engagement and streamline the planning process. Planners must stay abreast of the latest tech trends and be willing to incorporate new tools that can elevate the event experience. This technological integration not only facilitates more immersive and interactive events but also allows for sophisticated data collection and analysis, providing valuable insights into attendee behavior and preferences. Working with corporate events presents a unique set of challenges that require a deep understanding of the business world, exceptional organisational skills, and a knack for innovation. By mastering these aspects, event planners can create meaningful, impactful events that resonate with corporate audiences and achieve key business objectives. Looking for training to support your progression in corporate event management? Here's a few suggestions:

  • Celebrating Excellence: Graduate Akilah Atiba-Davies, a Shining Example of Entrepreneurial Spirit in the Event Industry

In the bustling, dynamic world of event management, where creativity and innovation are the bedrocks of success, Akilah Atiba-Davies stands out as a shining example of entrepreneurial spirit. Her recent accolade, the prestigious "Graduate Award for Excellence" from The Event School London, is a testament to her remarkable journey and contributions to the event industry. A Passion Ignited Akilah's story is one of passion transformed into tangible success. As the founder of 'With Akilah & Co', based in Croydon, she has carved out a niche in the industry by focusing on London Elopements and Intimate Weddings. These are not just events; they are personalised experiences, imbued with the uniqueness and authenticity of each couple she works with. This isn't just a business for Akilah; it's a calling. She thrives on creating days that are personal, unique, and absolutely true to her clients. The Corporate Ladder to Creative Heights Before venturing into the vibrant world of alternative and modern weddings, Akilah's professional life was entrenched in the corporate sphere, handling sales, administration, and customer-facing roles. However, the predictability in the corporate world left her craving something more - a realm where creativity reigned supreme, and every day brought new challenges and opportunities for innovation. A Turning Point in Bali The pivotal moment in Akilah's journey came in 2016, during a picturesque engagement in Bali. This experience wasn't just life-changing; it was career-defining. The thrill of planning her own wedding, from budgeting to managing unforeseen timeline hiccups, ignited a flame in her. She was often confronted with the phrase, "that's not what happens in a normal wedding", but rather than conforming, she saw it as an opportunity to redefine the 'normal'. Breaking the Mold with The South London Wedding Show Akilah's entrepreneurial journey took a significant leap with the launch of 'The South London Wedding Show'. Identifying a gap in the market, she curated an exhibition that brought together the best suppliers in South London. This isn't just another wedding show; it's a celebration of diversity, inclusivity, culture, and tradition, blended seamlessly with contemporary alternatives. Recognition from Industry Leaders It was a moment of pride when Siobhan Craven-Robins, a leading figure in the wedding industry, presented Akilah with her well-deserved award. A Model of Success Akilah's journey is a brilliant example for aspiring event managers. It shows that with passion, creativity, and a willingness to challenge the status quo, success is not just a possibility; it's an inevitability. • Revolutionising Wedding & Party Planning: The Event School London Collaborates with "That's The One"

The Event School London, renowned for its exceptional training in wedding, party and event planning industry, has taken a significant step towards integrating technology into its curriculum through a new partnership with "That's The One" (TTO), a bespoke software platform designed for wedding and event planners. This collaboration marks a pivotal moment in the world of planning education. TTO, is an innovative platform launched by Founder Katerina Trefilova, after her own personal experience that highlighted a gap in the market: "This is where it all began! An incredible sunset view, surprise proposal, and lots of Portuguese sangria," Trefilova reminisces about her engagement during the Covid-19 pandemic. The necessity of online planning during this period shed light on the outdated methods used by many planners, such as reliance on spreadsheets and manual processes. TTO was born from the desire to streamline these outdated methods and help planners focus on their passion: creating memorable, design-led experiences for their clients. One of the unique aspects of TTO is its team of resident planners, including the esteemed Colin Cowie of Colin Cowie Lifestyle, Vogue's No. 1 Best Wedding Planner and many more. Their expertise and diverse backgrounds contribute immensely to TTO's user experience, providing valuable insights and ensuring the platform meets the nuanced needs of today's planners. For students at The Event School London, this collaboration opens a world of technological empowerment. TTO offers students a three-month free period post-graduation, a crucial time for either establishing their business or seeking employment. This gesture not only demonstrates TTO's commitment to nurturing new talent but also provides a practical tool to enhance the employability and business prospects of emerging planners. Maria O'Dea, School Director at The Event School London, is enthusiastic about the partnership: "We are looking forward to working with Katerina Trefilova, CEO & Founder of That's The One, to encourage and enable planners to embrace technology and enhance their employability or business prospects." TTO stands out with its user-friendly features, designed to maximize efficiency and impress clients. The platform offers streamlined client communications, budget management, timelines, vendor management, and a suite of other tools, all aimed at elevating the planning experience. For a detailed insight into these features, visit TTO's Features Page. The connection between TTO and The Event School London is further strengthened by the relationship between Katerina Trefilova and Siobhan Craven-Robins, the lead wedding planning lecturer at the school and co-founder and director of the National Association of Wedding Professionals (NAWP). Their collaboration was recently showcased at an NAWP event, where Trefilova delivered an informative presentation on TTO's platform and its development. This partnership is not just a step forward for The Event School London and TTO; it represents a broader shift in the event planning industry towards technological integration. It promises to equip the next generation of planners with the tools they need to succeed in an increasingly digital world, ensuring that they are not only skilled in the art of planning but also adept at leveraging technology to create unforgettable experiences.
